

Circumstances of Death
Special Agent Merimon Barnes was found dead in the woods near his government vehicle in Jackson County, Florida. He had left his home to meet a confidential informant and at some point, had apparently stopped to rest. Agent Barnes' death was ruled a heart attack.
Background
Agent Barnes joined the Bureau of Prohibition on October 1, 1930, and served in Cleveland, Ohio; Birmingham, Alabama; and Tampa, Florida. He carried badge #1650. Prior to becoming an agent, he was a teacher in the Washington, DC public schools.

Agent Barnes was born in Muscadine, Alabama. He was survived by his wife and three children.
